What $8 million gets you in the 19807

Con: You’ll have a Wilmington address
Pro or Con, depending on your outlook: you’d be almost neighbors with Joe Biden and a bunch of du Ponts.

With 30% unemployment? That’s gonna be an interesting litmus test..
In that price bracket? Buy ers really, really don’t like “projects”, so it’s a little offensive that they wouldn’t put $100K into the kitchen and baths... unless they think it’s a teardown.
I guarantee I can find you a lot to build on in SoCal with more potential at $10M price point...
I’m gonna watch that one because I’m really curious.

Crackpipe, doesn't even have a garage. Don't even try and say it has a slip it doesn't count.

At least you can reach out the window and borrow TP from both neighbors.

Actually, that’s the price it sold for at the end of March. I guess when you’re that rich unemployment really isn’t really a factor. And yes, it’s probably a teardown. I’ve seen lots of classic, cool homes in that area sell for around the same price and be torn down.

No roads, so no parking. I’d be lost without a garage. There must be some nearby for the island residents to use, but on a rainy day that would suck. It is SoCal, so not much chance of that. I guess you wouldn’t have to worry about getting groceries since you probably have people to do that for you - let them schlep that stuff across the bridge...

You’d think being closest to the bridge would make it the less desirable property on the island, but what do I know.

Here’s $1.2M in Albuquerque, NM. I think the upkeep is what kills people out here.

I don’t count it as a private island if I have to share it with a dozen other houses.
If I had that kind of money this kind of property wouldn’t even be a consideration, I think it’s awful.

And here’s what ~$6M will get you in my area:
And if you wanted to go closer to $11M, you could have a place with this garage:

$9m for that.
In my county. 20 miles down the road, just under £3m will get you a Grade II listed Edwardian Mansion, fishing rights and 17 acres of land.
Out buildings

Funny. It’s not showing the Trulia database-- usually those are pretty synch’d

Its one of those things where, even if I had the money, all that extra space and upkeep would still be hard to justify to myself, but, at least I can look at stuff like that outside hyper-inflated markets and recognize that, yes, it is certainly worth the money for someone who wants that kind of place.

For 1/3 of that price, you can have this:
And then the other $6M could be used to fill the hangar in the back.

Plus, “stamp duty”.

Virtually the same price (but with “8"s to woo a certain demographic) in my zipcode, typical local style late 00s faux kinda Tuscan, good area but maybe a little close to 520:

Here’s $13.7M of goodness in my town. I think this was (is) Rob Lowe. He owns several houses here.

Lol. No murdering of lords, Dukes, Grand Dukes, Archduke, Princes, Grand Princes, Kings, Counts, Knights, Earls, Viscounts, Marquess’ or Barons.
I used the government SDLT (Stamp Duty Land Tax) on a ‘residential’, ‘single home’, on the £2,750,000 property, it’s £243,750.

There is a 20 acre parcel on the not side of the lake for $20m. Anything on the lake is going to be 800-1m minimum. In town a nice 2500 sf family home is $500k.

Payette Lake used to have that effect... One side of the lake was called “Hamburger Bay” because Ray Kroc and Dave Thomas had huge spreads right down to the lakeshore. It was very private over there— limited road access and those guys would fly in via Lake Amphibians from the Boise Airport.
Idaho’s been over-run with the Californians and I haven’t been to Payette Lake in many years— assume it’s condos and denser lake developments by now.
